Security Issues in Blockchained IoT

layers. This enables the creation of secure networks, which provides autonomous,

decentralized equivalents of traditional methods or tasks. It tries to achieve better

security for the overall system. Some of the common mechanisms for securing IoT

systems are registered “things”, identity management, ownership validation and data

history. Blockchained IoT can be implemented across all business domains (such as

fintech, banking, hospitals and airlines) and technical verticals (such as Big Data,

cloud and robotics). It can share data in a secure, private Blockchain to reduce the

costs and complexities of existing business systems (Figure 3.3).

3.1.4  Layered Architecture of Blockchained IoT

The Blockchain technology manages a specific type of distributed ledger when

implemented with IoT technology. The IoT technology is the successor to the WSN

technology (Kishore & Sharma, 2016); the WSN was dependent on a LAN, whereas

IoT has taken it to the broader concept of providing each node with Internet facility

and making the process of data dissemination simpler (Sharma & Kishore, 2017)

(Figure 3.4).

The integration of technologies needs five important aspects to be covered:

• Management of proof of ownership and identity in case of ubiquitous device

management. This record of all the devices in the theme of identity, address

and contract must be managed by the Blockchain ledger.
